Medically Urgent Cases


Daytime: 8.00am-6.00pm.

Telephone the surgery on 01954 250079. Emergencies will always take priority. Medically urgent cases will always be seen on the same day.


Evenings: 6.00pm-8.00am, weekends and public holidays.

Telephone 111, or alternatively telephone the surgery on 01954 250079 and you will automatically be transferred to 111/Urgent Care Cambridgeshire.


Health Promotion


We offer health checks for all patients and give advice regarding blood pressure, weight, and lifestyle including smoking, alcohol intake and exercise.


Domestic Vaccinations


Everyone should have a diphtheria/tetanus and polio booster at age 15 and then a further tetanus vaccination depending on medical advice.


Child Health Surveillance


Development checks for pre-school children are performed at regular intervals in association with the health visitor.


The Practice Nurse performs immunisation of pre-school children. We strongly recommend that all children should be immunised.


Child and Family Nurses


Health visitors trained in child health, development and behaviour, hold a child health clinic on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 1pm-3pm at Ladybirds Pre-School in Lambs Lane, Cottenham.


There is a school link nurse for Cottenham Primary School. The contact number for the team is 01954 250782 or via the surgery.


Family Planning


A range of family planning services (including emergency contraception) is available from the doctor or nurse.  Some contraception methods may require a referral.




The midwife attached to the practice can be contacted on 01223 712075 (Histon Early Years Centre). 


The midwife holds a surgery every Monday afternoon from 2.00pm.


Breast Screening


The nurse is available to teach breast awareness. All eligible women aged 50-64 will automatically be invited to attend a mammogram (breast x-ray) every three years by the NHS Screening Services. 


Cervical Smears


Cervical smears are carried out by appointment with a practice nurse. Reminder letters are sent by the Cervical Screening Services to patients who are due to have a smear .


Community Care


Home Help and Meals on Wheels and other services are available from the Social Services team.

Foreign Travel


A full programme of immunisation required for travel abroad is available. Please speak to the receptionist to book an appointment with the Practice Nurse to plan your course, ideally 3 months in advance of your travel date.


Non NHS Services


For example, to whom it may concern letters, private certificates, medical examinations (including PSV), medical reports, DVLA medicals, insurance claims: please ask at reception for information and fees for these services.
